The high tensile carbon steel shaft is accurately machined and the ground is supported by two antifriction bearings in case of a double ball bearing pump and one journal bearing as well as one ball bearing in the case of a single ball bearing pump. This takes all the radial and axial load.
The stuffing box is sealed by gland packings. More stuffing box depth was provided for better sealing against air leakage. Water sealing is provided in the stuffing box.
